CHAPTER 21

Cole

Shit. I knew I wasn’t going to make it to the edge of the table before falling over, but I hadn’t planned on taking Danica down with me.

“I’m sorry.” My fingers fumbled to release my foot from the jeans holding it captive. Finally, the wet denim gave up its grip, and I kicked them away. “Are you okay?”

She’d fallen sideways when I plowed into her. I reached out and pulled her upright, putting her at eye level to my raging hard-on. Double shit. I turned away and reached for another quilt, trying to wrap it around my hips before she got a face full of my cock.

Her laughter rang through the cabin and she wheezed in a breath. “I’m sorry, that was priceless.”

“Which part? The bit where I tripped over myself trying to take my pants off or the part where I fell onto you buck naked?” I squatted down next to her. At least she was laughing about it instead of grabbing the fire poker and threatening to rip a new hole in my anatomy.

“All of it. Your face when you fell…” She continued to gasp for air.

“I’m glad you find me so amusing.”

“I’m sorry.” She reached over, smoothing her hand along my cheek. “I’m not laughing at you.”

I turned into her touch. It had been too long since I’d felt it.

She slid her hand along my jaw. “I was laughing with you, Cole.”

“Let’s see you try to pull off your wet jeans on one leg,” I challenged.

“Is that another poor attempt at trying to get me to take off my clothes?” Her voice dipped low, taking on a rough, sexy tone that filled my head with visions of the last time we’d been naked together.

My cock grew harder and thicker as I remembered what it felt like to run my tongue over her sweet skin and taste her lips. “Will it work?”

She shifted closer, cupping both of my cheeks with her palms. “When we hooked up before, I didn’t know who you were.”

“Does that change things now that you know?” I put my hands on hers and drew them to my lips. I kissed one, then the other while the quilt I’d wrapped around my waist fell loose.

“I don’t know. Should it?” The growing fire reflected in her eyes. She was unsure. I could tell by the way her chest rose and fell in uneven breaths.

Wanting to offer reassurance, I pressed a kiss to her palm. “I didn’t know who you were, either.”

“Does it change things now that you know?” Her voice went soft, like a whisper.

“Now that I’ve gotten to know you, it’s only made me want you more.” It was true. The words came out raw and honest. I’d tried to fight it, tried to tell myself that I couldn’t have feelings for a woman who had the power to ruin me.

It didn’t matter.

My heart didn’t give a flying fuck that she was aligned with Davis or that she’d been tasked with taking the business in the wrong direction.
